Umemoto Tokyu | Painting

Born in 1917 in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, Umemoto Tokyu was deeply influenced by the region's rugged and pristine natural beauty. Hokkaido's expansive landscapes, with their dramatic seasonal changes, provided a rich source of inspiration for his work. Particularly, the endless expanse of the sea with its constant, rhythmic waves had a mesmerizing effect on him. The sound of the waves crashing onto the shore was like nature’s own lullaby, easing his mind and drawing him into a meditative state.
