Otagaki Rengetsu | Letter
Private letter to Toshiko, a collector and friend of Rengetsu.
"I thank you for coming yesterday. However, as usual, I didn't anything to offer you. I am so sorry. Regarding the matter of the color, I will inform you by letter in a day or two. - There aren't any (of my usual) sencha pots at the moment. I have just one teapot, but it doesn't have a poem (carved into it). For now, I offer you this. - How about traveling to Osaka together? Please let me know. - Early on the 10th, I have some other commitments. Please consider this. - Someday soon I shall visit you. Let's clear up these matters then. - As always, your poems are excellent. I was moved. For now, I send this letter in reply." [Post script] A good board, for a while now, I have put it on my back. - I will explain everything when we meet."
To Toshiko, from Rengetsu. - On this 28th day.
