Ikeda Unsho (1823-1887) was a professor at the Kyoto Prefectural Special School of Painting, and followed up by apprenticing under a number of other well-known artists during which time he managed considerable research into painting and materials before branching off on his own. He was adept at both Nanga and Nihonga styles, and received numerous awards, including at the prestigious Bunten. Father and teacher of Ikeda Keisen (1863-1932).
