Koso Hirano (1880-1931)
平野古桑

Hirano Kosô a Nanga painter, born in Taketa (竹田), Ôita Prefecture in 1880, died in Nagano in 1931at the age of 51. He was a student of Tachika Chikuson (田近竹邨, 1864-1922), who had studied under Tanomura Chokunyû (田能村直入, 1814-1907). Tajika and Tanomura were also from Taketa.
Hirano’s given name was Yôdô (要道), his artist’s names were Gi (疑), Sôgi (霜疑), and Kosô (古桑, literally: old mulberry). Tanomura, Tajika and Hirano were active in Kyoto.
