Kasumi Bunsho (1905-1998)
春見文勝
Kasumi Bunsho was born 1905 (December 25th) in Minokamo, Gifu Prefecture. He entered Zuirin-ji temple and became a monk in 1921. In 1933 he began formal training in the Zen arts at Empuku-ji (in Yawata near Kyoto) with Kozuki Tesshu (1879-1937) and later with Kanshu Sojun (Deiryu, 1895-1954), whose dharma heir he was. In 1949 he became Zen Master and Abbot of Kaisei-ji in Nishinomiya. From 1990 to 1994 he served as Abbot of Myoshin-ji. Both of his Zen Masters Nantembo (1839-1925) and Deiryu (1895-1954) have influenced his work substantially.
